Traffic Division

The Traffic Division currently consists of 3 Officers.

Our responsibilities are to investigate all traffic collisions, enforce traffic laws

and respond to any traffic related calls for service.

Motor Unit

Inside the Traffic Division is the Motor Unit. This unit currently rides Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

Besides traffic enforcement, the Motor Unit has other additional functions.

This includes, parades, funerals, walking/running events and Dignitary protection.

Officers in the Motor Unit are highly trained and are required to pass

what some might consider the hardest police training out there.

Maneuvering an 800 lb motorcycle is harder than it looks.

Commercial Vehicle Inspections

The South Jordan Police Department's Traffic Division also has Commercial Vehicle Inspectors certified through CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance). Commercial vehicles are thoroughly inspected, thus taking unsafe commercial motor vehicles off the roadways. Inspections are completed either randomly, resulting from traffic stops or traffic collisions, or by appointment.

To make an appointment, please call Officer Chris Hart or Officer BJ Smith at 801-254-4708.
