Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program helps train people to be better prepared to respond to emergency situations in the community. When emergencies occur, CERT members can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.

The CERT training program is a 21-hour course taught in the community by a trained team of instructors. The course is typically delivered over a seven-week period and is a great opportunity to prepare you to help your self, your family and your neighbors after a large scale disaster. During the training you will learn about the hazards that face our community, disaster preparedness, how to perform basic first aid, put out small fires, conduct triage, team operations and to perform light search and rescue. The training also includes a disaster simulation in which participants practice skills that they learned throughout the course. The skills will help you know what to do and your confidence gained will help you when faced with a disaster situation.

The Next course starts Thursday September 4th, and continues for the next six weeks on September 11th, 18th, 25th and October 2nd, & 9th from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The final "mock disaster" will be held on Saturday October 11th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Each of the classes will be held at Fire Station #62 (4022 West 10400 South)

The cost for this course is - Resident $30 / Non-resident $60.
